A fleet of BMW X1 prototypes were made available during a media event held in Mallorca, Spain. Since the looks the of the X1 is an open secret after the near-production concept was shown at an auto show recently, BMW has released photos of the compact softroading SUV in camouflage.
The base models will be named the xDrive18i for the gasoline version and the xDrive18d for the diesel. BMW will also offer three additional versions of the X1 at launch. The first is the xDrive20d, again a diesel model with 177 hp. Next up is the xDrive23d diesel with 204hp. The top version is the gasoline-powered xDrive28i with a corporate inline-6. All are all-wheel-drive models, although speculation suggests that sDrive rear-driven models may be introduced later.
The BMW X1 will begin selling in Europe during the fall of 2009, with an American debut following shortly.
