The United States House of Representatives recently came to an agreement on a proposed cash-for-clunkers incentive program, with the legislation finding a home recently in the American Clean Energy and Security Act. An Ohio rep amended the American Clean Energy and Security Act to now include the cash-for-clunkers bill.

The American Clean Energy and Security Act is currently being reviewed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, but could find itself on the House floor in the coming days, according to the Detroit Free Press. The committee approved the cash-for-clunkers program by a margin of 50-4.

Two separate versions of the cash-for-clunkers bill had been at odds in Washington until a suitable compromise was met. Some felt the program should support the domestic automakers while others felt it should promote fuel efficient vehicles. In the end, the bill is a melding of the two, offering up to $4,500 for consumers to trade in older vehicles on new and more efficient models.
