Ford posted an 11% decline in volume for June of 2009 versus the same month in 2008, which also happens to be the lowest decline among all automakers. Now, for the first time in 50 years, Ford has ranked number one in Canada, purely in terms of sales volume.

Ford outpaced perennial market leader General Motors in Canada by 5,000 units. Ford posted 27,408 sales for June, which is a 24.6% increase over June 2008. All other brands posted larger sales declines. Overall car sales in Canada were down 13% on the month.

Ford’s increase in sales was due in part to a surprising 41% increase in SUV sales. The Ford F-150 posted a healthy 59% increase, while the Ford Edge was up 23%.
